My primary responsibility in the Department of Medical Education is the maintenance and development of IT infrastructure for all students studying in the School of Medicine, including the GEMP Medical students, Biotechnology, Environmental Health, Speech Pathology, Nutrition & Dietetics, Palliative Care, Public Health, Nursing and many other Health Science courses.

I have been working in the Computer Assisted Learning Unit since 1993, and have overseen all major upgrades to student computing facilities, including student workstations, servers and staff workstations, plus all associated software and upgrades. Part of my duties include membership of the Computer Support Group which oversees IT management throughout the entire campus.

For many years I was responsible for IT support for students spending the 3rd year of the medical course in the South Australian Riverland, which involved travelling to the Riverland to install, upgrade and maintain student workstations, laptops, networks and printers.

I have also been involved in developing multimedia resources to support the teaching activities of the School since 1993, including video, audio, databases and websites. I was responsible for the initial development of the School of Medicine server and website.

During 2004 to 2006 I studied and completed the Frontline Management course offered by the Staff Development Unit at Flinders University, earning the Certificate IV in Business.

Prior to my joining the CAL Unit, I worked in the Department of Histopathology in Flinders Medical Centre from 1983 until 1989, developing Video Image Analysis software and hardware to be used in Cancer research. This gave me a very good ground-floor knowledge of hardware, operating systems and programming languages on the personal computer platform.

From 1989 until 1993 I worked in a small private company (Leading Edge Pty Ltd) continuing development and marketing of Image Analysis solutions, writing sofware for Windows based PC's.

From 1978 until 1982 I was studying for a Bachelor of Science degree at Flinders University of South Australia, majoring in Chemistry, and worked part-time in the Physical Sciences department developing X-Ray image enhancement techniques and software in a research assistant role.
