The South Australian Community Health Research Unit (SACHRU) seeks to enhance health, wellbeing and equitable outcomes in South Australia by contributing to improving the quality of primary health care, health promotion and population health initiatives through research, evaluation and building the capacity of the workforce.

SACHRU provides support to a range of groups including community health services, government departments administering grants programs, community organisations, and others conducting community and primary health care projects, such as hospitals, and non-government organisations.

Core funding is provided by the SA Department of Health , and we attract funds from other sources for projects, consultancies, conferences and workshops. SACHRU is administered through the Faculty of Health Sciences, Flinders University

SACHRU is co-located with the Discipline of Public Health , Flinders University and collaborates with them on joint projects and workforce training and development. The Unit's close links with the Faculty of Health Sciences, Flinders University are strengthened through the Director, Professor Fran Baum , who is Director of SACHRU and Director of the Southgate Institute for Health, Society and Equity . A number of SACHRU Research Officers also have academic status within the School of Medicine in the Faculty.

SACHRU has core research and administrative staff, with additional staff funded by research grants. SACHRU is also supported by an Advisory Committee.

Seminar and Launch of the Southgate Institute for Health, Society and Equity (the Southgate Institute) on Friday the 22nd of May from 1-6pm at Flinders University , Venue (TBC). Prof. Michael Barber, Vice-Chancellor of Flinders University will chair this event.

Fulbright Symposium 2008 - Healthy People, Prosperous Country. This event brought together some of the world's leading experts on social determinants of health with a broad range of Aboriginal health workers, health bureaucrats, academics and students to investigate the disparity between Indigenous and non-Indigenous health outcomes in Australia.
