Planning Healthy Communities

Planning Healthy Communities: A Guide to Doing Needs Assessment (1991) Manual

A popular 'how to do it' manual for anyone involved in community work. The manual aims to provide a framework within which to collect information for planning healthy communities; tools to enable you to do this; the confidence to enable you to do your own community research or to work with researchers so that you feel you understand the process and can make a contribution to it; and an idea of the benefits and pitfalls you can expect in setting about this type of activity. The Research Unit has drawn on its experience in the fields of needs assessment and liaison with community health workers to demystify such issues as questionnaire design, sample size, when to use quantitative and qualitative methodologies and the most effective ways of reporting results. Examples from the Unit's work are offered throughout.
