Recent external research grants awarded as Primary Investigator

2005 £250,000 from Department of Health to undertake the national evaluation of supplementary prescribing in nursing and pharmacy.

2005 £15,000 from the Supportive Primary Care Oncology Research Group (SPORG) to explore the barriers and facilitators to colorectal cancer screening among patients and GPs in South Yorkshire

2004 £6,000 from Trent Focus to undertake pilot work in GP practices aimed at understanding GP-patient consultations around colorectal cancer

2003 £10,000 from South East Sheffield NHS Primary Care Trust to undertake focus groups with white and Pakistani residents in order to explore their healthcare needs and views of current health service provision

2003 £5,000 from South East Sheffield NHS Primary Care Trust to analyse the results from a questionnaire survey which was linked to the above study.

Recent external research grants as Co-Investigator

2005 850,000 Euros from the European Commission to undertake the accreditation of Public Health Training across Europe, including developing relevant accreditation criteria, setting up the European Agency for Accreditation of Public Health Education, and accrediting the MPH at Sheffield University.

2005 £1.25 million from the Leverhulme Trust to undertake a research programme called "Changing families, changing food".

2005 £15,000 from the Supportive Primary Care Oncology Research Group (SPORG) to undertake a quantitative, descriptive analysis of incidence and survival rates for colorectal cancer across GP practices in South Yorkshire .

Major teaching grants

2005 European Commission award to run the European Master of Public Health, as part of the Erasmus Mundus programme. Part of a consortia of Universities including Universities of Rennes (France), Copenhagen (Denmark), Granada (Spain) and Jagellonian University (Poland).
