Seminars

Neuroscience Seminars ('NeuroSeminars') are held every Wednesday at 4:10pm in the Horseshoe Seminar Room (5E132) on level 5 of the Flinders Medical Centre. The present seminar program is listed below.

In addition to the NeuroSeminar series, NeuroLunch - an informal lunchtime meeting - is held every Friday at 12 noon. The NeuroLunch program is emailed to CNS members, and is not available online.

NeuroJams are student only seminars, held once a month on a Friday at 12 noon in the Horseshoe Seminar Room. The details for these seminars are also available below.

All enquiries concerning NeuroSeminars or NeuroLunches should be directed to Patrick Falckh (phone: 8204 5633 or email: patrick.falckh@flinders.edu.au). All enquiries regarding NeuroJams should be directed to the CNS Student Representative Simona Carbone (carb0025@flinders.edu.au).

For all CNS speakers, an Information Sheet on the Horseshoe Seminar Room is available online, and can be forwarded to your Invited Speaker on request.

Part 1 of 3 - From Physics to Neural Circuits
Prof Marcello Costa, Human Physiology, Flinders Medical Science & Technology
*Marcello Costa in a 3 CNS seminar series, will summarize his views of how to navigate across the transitions between the physical environment and the emergence of neural organisms (from physics to neurons), then across the gaps between neural circuits of the brain and mental functions (from neurons to mind) and finally across the divide of mental functions and the physical world (from mind to physics). He will attempt to unify these apparently irreconcilable worlds under a unified physical conception. The seminars are naturally targeted for neuroscientists, but will also be of interest to philosophers, psychologists, linguists, biologists, cognitive scientists, computer scientists and other science and humanity disciplines. Part 2 to follow on 22nd April.

Centre for Neuroscience "Open Day" NeuroJam
The Centre for Neuroscience consists of independently run laboratories within Flinders University. Each with the common goal of understanding the nervous system. The "Centre for Neuroscience 'Open Day' NeuroJam" is an opportunity for students to gain first hand knowledge of potential projects they could be apart of. Students who undertake research within a Centre for Neuroscience laboratory are exposed to a variety of state-of-the-art research strategies in the fields of neuroanatomy, neurophysiology, neurochemistry, neuropharmacology, neuropsychology and neuronal modelling. If you are considering taking part in a Work Placement, Summer Scholarship, Honours or PhD project in neuroscience then we recommend you attend!
