Visiting Fellowship
To mark the 25th anniversary of the Centre for Neuroscience at
Flinders University, the CNS offered a Visiting Fellowship to
bring a distinguished overseas neuroscientist to Flinders for
a period of at least 3 to 4 weeks. The purpose being to initiate
new collaborations or to strengthen existing collaborations with
laboratories in the CNS, and to bring in expertise that will be
of value to the broader CNS membership. It was anticipated that
the Visiting Fellow would be hosted by a particular laboratory,
but would spend time visiting other laboratories. The Visiting
Fellow would also present a seminar to the FMRI, and would take
part in a workshop in their field of expertise. This Fellowship
was funded by the FMC Foundation, and covered a return economy
airfare for the Fellow and a living allowance. Members of the CNS
were asked to nominate distinguished neuroscientists for this
Fellowship. They forwarded details of their nominee’s
field of expertise, and evidence of their eminence and existing
collaboration with the CNS or reasons for the proposed collaboration.
The CNS Executive was pleased to announce the award of 25th Anniversary
Visiting Fellow to Professor Patrice Guyenet from the Department
of Pharmacology, University of Virginia, Charlottesville VA, USA.
Prof Guyenet visited the CNS from September 15th 2003 to October
3rd 2003. During this time he was hosted by the Cardiovascular
Neuroscience Laboratory, and took part in a workshop entitled
"The ventral surface of the medulla and central chemosensitivity"
on the 19th Sept, presented a seminar on the 30th Sept, and was
the Special Guest at a dinner held in his honour at Café
Mediterranean (30th).
25th Anniversary Symposium
A special one-day symposium was held for past and present members
of the CNS, to reminisce and reflect on the camaraderie and scientific
achievements of the Centre, and to look to the future of the CNS
in a rapidly changing world, both scientifically and politically.
The CNS was delighted that so many past members were able to attend,
especially those who traveled from interstate especially.
