Nursing
In 2002 the Clinical School supported a new initiative by the School
of Nursing and Midwifery at Flinders University. The first cohort
of 20 nursing students began their Bachelor of Nursing degree in
a new nursing campus at Renmark. Students are able to complete the
full three-year degree at Renmark and in 2005 the annual intake
of 20 students was increased to 30 students.
Teaching takes place in well equipped facilities at Flinders University
Rural Clinical School, which resides in the grounds of the Renmark
Hospital. Teaching Facilities include a library, 24-hour access
computer laboratory, classrooms and clinical skills laboratory.
Two Nursing Lecturers and an Administrative Assistant are permanently
based at Renmark. Additional lecturers travel from Adelaide weekly,
or present lectures by videoconference. There are also several locally
based casual lecturers.
The fourth cohort of nursing students graduated in 2007. All graduates
who have applied to a Graduate Nurse Program (GNP) have been successfully
admitted to a program. A significant proportion of graduates have
elected to undertake their GNP at a Riverland Health Service, and
many Flinders University Nursing Graduates continue to work in the
Riverland Region as Registered Nurses.
