Flinders University Rural Health Society: FURHS
Flinders University Rural Health Society (FURHS) is a student run club that fosters interest and practice in rural health. FURHS members are generally students interested in rural health and are enrolled in health related courses such as Medicine, Nursing, Speech Pathology, Midwifery and Dietetics. The FURHS committee and members organise social, clinical and other activities with a rural health flavour for students at Flinders University. These activities are developed in an effort to fulfill the aims of our club. FURHS members are also extensively involved with the annual Year 1 Cultural Awareness Program. The 'Graduate Medicine for Indigenous Students' scholarships were established in 2002 by FURHS and the Flinders University Rural Clinical School (FURCS) as an endeavour to support and encourage Indigenous students to sit the GAMSAT and seek admission to the Flinders University GEMP. The FURHS Indigenous Officer liaises with the FURCS Rural Placements Coordintor to provide support for this scheme. For further details please follow the link to the Scholarships page. FURHS receives funding from the Rural Undergraduate Support and Coordination (RUSC) Grant (provided by the Commonwealth Department of Health and Ageing and administered by the Flinders University Rural Clinical School) and from the Flinders University Clubs and Societies. Sponsorship, support and assistance is received from Ramsays Books and Medical Supplies, the Medical Defence Association of South Australia and the Rural Doctors Workforce Agency.
