FURCS Research
About Us
Flinders University Rural Clinical School (FURCS) has embarked
on a unique challenge aimed at strengthening research and development
in rural South Australia. The FURCS Research unit was established
in 2004 with aim of developing a research culture in rural communities.
We aim to maximize the relevance of research to the community.
By raising community expectations and engagement, it is expected
that there will be increased commitment to, and collaboration in
research.
It is envisaged that through research the community will understand
the health challenges and better plan for the future. Additionally,
undertaking quality post graduate research locally, will facilitate
staff retention rates and attract clinicians to the region. The
program of research will involve a five year plan that will be widely
disseminated. The plan will demonstrate the essence of the developing
research culture and therefore be used to apply for funding for
research and further infrastructure. In this way health research
can provide a powerful vehicle for further strengthening interconnections
in rural communities.
