Welcome to Environmental Health

Environmental Health examines those aspects of human health determined by physical, chemical, biological or social factors in the environment; environmental health is about creating and maintaining environments which promote good public health.

Environmental Health has been a discipline within the School of Medicine since 1992. Its offices and laboratories are located in the new Health Sciences Building which was completed in 2009.

Our teaching programs which graduate environmental health professionals are reviewed and accredited by Environmental Health Australia to ensure they remain relevant and meet the needs, both current and emerging, of this important  profession protecting public health.  We also offer programs which contribute to the further professional development of qualified environmental health practitioners, including the National Short Courses in Environmental Health.

The expertise of our academic staff is recognised both nationally and internationally. The academic staff both contributed to and edited the pre-eminent textbook, Environmental Health in Australia and New Zealand.

We have active research programs in a range of environmental health issues which support honours and research higher degree students. We are members of Flinders Medical Science and Technology.
