FBE combines the resources of Flinders Medical Centre and Flinders University, School of Medicine. Biomedical Engineering tasks are shared among four groups:
- Administration Group manages overall activities.
- Clinical Group supports patient applied equipment.
- Laboratory Group supports "in vitro" equipment.
- Research & Development Group supports research activities with design and development of specialised equipment and initiates medical device research for commercialisation.
All groups are involved in the education, training, and short course activities offered by FBE. Staff are available on a consultancy basis to local and international clients. FBE can assist in the establishment or re-engineering of in-house biomedical engineering departments.
